Internet Connection for Day Trading

OK, so day trading online is an interesting and viable strategy that you want to get started on. You sit down, get your charts prepared, your live news feed in place, your trading platform up and running and prepare for your first day. The market opens flat but starts to catch a strong bid after a few minutes--you see a breakout forming in AAPL and go in for 500 shares.

Then, it happens.

"Unable to connect---please check your Internet Settings".

Forget whipsaw reversals and margin calls---THIS is the day traders worst nightmare. You are stuck in a position and have no idea what is happening. To make matters worse, your broker's "anticipated hold time" is 32 minutes. Believe us, it's a nightmare scenario that you DO NOT want to experience.

One of the most overlooked aspects of setting up a day trading system is making sure that you have an internet connection that you can trust, and a backup in place should it fail. Here are a few tips:

  • Get a Cable Modem. DSL can be fine, but it is our experience that Cable is generally faster and more reliable. Do not rely on dial-up as your primary source--you are day trading to make enough profits that the $50/month for a high-quality connection should be a drop in the bucket
  • Keep a NATIONAL dial-up provider as backup. AOL, NetZero and Netscape are pretty much good for one thing and one thing only---dialing up in the event your broadband provider dies on you!
  • Get Internet Access through your Cell Phone or PDA. This is a perfect backup because the event (down power line, etc) that causes your cable modem and/or phone line to go out is unlikely to effect your wireless coverage.

DaytradeTeam's Day Trading Systems will help you become a more profitable day trader with access to our Live Trading Room--best of all, they are included in the DaytradeTeam all-inclusive Membership!
